HMS Sheffield was a Type 42 Guided Missile Destroyer, dispatched to the Falklands during the war in 1982. She became the first British warship to be sunk in action since the second world war. She was hit by an Exocet missile fired by a French-built Super Étendard aircraft belonging to the Argentine Navy, on 4 May 1982. She sank on May 10, while being towed.
