Stern

Stern. The aft end of the boat. On a modern catamaran, the sterns are reverse sloped (longest at the waterline, sloping upwards and forwards), to allow steps to be cut into them, providing access to and from the water to the deck. On a fifty-foot catamaran, the deck is about 8 feet above the water-level, and the steps are thus necessary, not a nicety.
