Hulls were made of wood on the old ships, but today are built of fibreglass and various composite materials or metals.

A catamaran has two hulls, a trimaran has three and a monohull obviously has one.

The photographs below shows two of the three molds used to make a Catana 471 hull. The largest one forms the nacelle and the inside portion of each hull, while the smaller one forms the outside portion of the hull and there are obviously two of these, one for port and one for starboard.
