Deck

Deck: The deck is usually horizontal and forms a surface for the crew to walk on. On a modern cat, after the hull, the deck is usually the second largest component in surface area as it also forms the roof of the coach and the floor of the cockpit. An old wooden ship often had several decks. For example, Impérieuse had a lower deck, an upper deck and the quarterdeck above it. The quarterdeck covered approximately a quarter of the upper-deck’s surface and was located at the aft end of the ship.
